Smile with Confidence

Dr. Brantley is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics which is the only certifying board recognized by the American Association of Orthodontists and the American Dental Association. This means that he has successfully completed the most rigid testing and evaluation of clinical judgment and skills that an orthodontist can achieve.

Dr. Brantley has presented the preparatory course at the National Convention of the American Association of Orthodontists for Orthodontists who wish to take their final examination before the American Board of Orthodontics. Dr. Brantley (along with Dr. Wayne Garrett of Alabama) presented these courses to candidates from around the world in San Francisco (2005) and Orlando (2004) for the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics.

Dr. Sid W. Brantley received his B.S. from Murray State University in 1976 with a degree in biology and minors in chemistry and mathematics, graduating Magna Cum Laude. Dr. Brantley was a charter member and held office in the pre-dental club at M.S.U., was president of the Tri-Beta (honorary biology) Club and was elected into Alpha Chi and O.D.K. honorary and leadership organizations while at Murray State. He received the M.S.U. alumni scholarship to attend Dental School.

Dr. Brantley attended the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry where he received his D.M.D. with Distinction in 1980. He was honored as the outstanding freshman in the basic sciences in 1977, served as dental school class president in 1977-78 and served on the Dean’s Academic Affairs Committee in 1979-80. He received the Mosby Book Award for Academic Excellence in 1980 and was elected to O.K.U., honorary dental society, in 1980.

Dr. Brantley, with great assistance from his wife Cathy, initiated his private, general dental practice in Reidland in 1980 where he practiced for seven years. During those years, Dr. Brantley served in the local dental society as Chairman of Children’s Dental Health Month and alternate delegate to the American Dental Association from our local society. He returned to complete his orthodontic residency at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry in 1987. While at the University of Louisville, Dr. Brantley served as the resident’s representative on the selection committee for incoming orthodontic residents. He completed two significant research projects while at U of L, one of which was published in the Journal of Clinical Orthodontics. Since receiving his orthodontic certificate in 1989, Dr. Brantley has exclusively practiced orthodontics in a private practice setting and has made presentations to the West Kentucky Hygienists’ Society, entitled, ‘Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction-True Internal Derangement vs. Myofascial Pain Dysfunction, Diagnosis and Treatment’ and most recently, ‘Timing of Treatment of Various Malocclusions’ to the Purchase Dental Society. Doctor Brantley has served as the Peer Review Committee Chairman for the Purchase Area Dental Society for several years and was nominated by his peers in 2007 to serve on the Kentucky Board of Dentistry.

Dr. Brantley serves as a Deacon at Lone Oak First Baptist Church where he occasionally plays piano or sings.  Music, hunting, fishing, and golf are other pastimes enjoyed seasonally.  He and Cathy were married in 1976 and have 2 (3) children with son Casey (M.D.-2008-U.K.) and his wife Erin (dietetics-U.K.-2007) and daughter Emily (a projected 2010 graduate) also at U.K., along with two Grand-dogs, Sophie and Tater.
